Enhancing Lives and Strengthening Communities

Who We Are - We are a non-profit, public-benefit organization that serves the elderly and people with disabilities in and around Whitman County, Washington State.

Mission Statement - The Council on Aging & Human Services is committed to enhancing lives and supporting communities with transportation, nutrition, information & assistance / care management, and home care services.

Our Goal - We organize and provide services to help people stay independent as long as possible, and enhance their livelihood. We want to help each individual experience an optimum quality of life, no matter what the challenge.

How We Do This - To accomplish this goal, we run programs in these categories::

  • Nutrition - We run food banks / pantries, deliver meals and suppliments to homebound people, manage social meal sites, and more.
  • Information & Assistance / Care Management - We meet with people to listen to their needs and let them know about what resources are available to them.
  • Transportation - We arrange transportation to help people get to doctor's appointments, shop for groceries, attend meal sites, and access many other destinations. We are also the WA State Medicaid Transportation and Interpreter Services Brokerage for Whitman, Asotin, & Garfield Counties.
  • Home Care Programs - For those who care for others - we organize temporary caregivers, respite programs , and relief time.

People Who Make it Possible - We always need help, and there are ways you can support us! Please take a moment of your time to consider helping us.

  • Volunteer Work - most of the direct work is done by local community members. Every person counts!
  • Caring Staff Members - these people have regular lives, and daily donate their time to make sure the Council on Aging continues to be able to support the community.
  • Board Members - anyone can be a board member - they are all volunteers, and they make the crucial decisions for the Council on Aging.
